The Five stages of
Cycling an Aquarium:

-
You introduce nitrogen to the aquarium through the fish food.
-
The food is eaten by the fish and ammonia is excreted.
-
The bacteria turn the ammonia into nitrite.
-
The nitrite is converted into nitrate.
-
The plants use the nitrate and ammonium as fertilizer.
